Allergens

At Duke Street Nursery, we aim to provide an environment where childhood allergy sufferers can thrive and participate in as many activities as possible. In order to do this we will need to work in partnership with the parents/carers of all children in our care

From 13th December 2014 Childcare providers offering snacks, drinks and meals are required by law to declare any of the 14 allergens (listed below) in any foods provided.

 

List of 14 allergens

There are 14 allergens in the European list. These represent the most common and potent allergens across the EU and these foods are responsible for the majority of the allergic reactions occurring within the food allergic population.

  • Celery
  • Cereals containing gluten - you need to specify if there is wheat (such as spelt and Khorasan), rye, barley, oats and their hybridised strains
  • Crustaceans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Milk
  • Lupin (Found often in bread and flour)
  • Mollusc
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Nuts -you need to specify if there is almond, hazelnut, walnut, cashew, pecan nut, Brazil nut, pistachio nut and macadamia nut (also known as Queensland nut)
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Soya
  • Sulphur dioxide (preservative found in foods such as dried fruits, raisins etc)

 

In our setting at snack time, we offer children:

Fresh fruit

Bread – Brand “Hovis Best of Both”

Margarine –  Can’t believe its not butter
